
Muoviyhdistys ry was founded in 1940 and is one of the oldest plastic societies in the world. It is a private association, which is not supported by state or other organizations, but finances its activities by member fees and by arranging different professional events.
The Finnish Plastics Association has over 1.200 members from about 800 companies (manufacturers, importers of raw-materials and machinery, universities and institutes of polymer research).
The Finnish Plastics Association is a good channel for networking with Finnish plastics industry. Networking can be done by different events as seminars and annual meetings or through extranet. Extranet is only available for members.

MuoviPlast magazine is the only professional magazine in the Finnish plastics industry. The magazine's readership covers approximately 800 companies, half of which are producing plastic products. It has also readers in the companies providing plastic raw materials, semi-finished products and machinery. MuoviPlast has six issues per year. Media information 2010.

The Finnish Plastics Association maintains MuoviSuomi museum where the visitor is introduced to the history of Finnish plastics industry from 1920's to the present day. The visit can bring up personal memories from the past decades and surprise the visitor how widely plastic materials are used in different applications ranging from cups and shampoo bottles to mobile phones and sports equipment, not to mention dolls, scissors, micropipettes, or even bicycles. The exhibition demonstrates well how versatile plastics is as a material.
The oldest items of the museum are casein lamps and buttons made by Sarvis, the oldest plastic company in Finland, and different objects made from bakelite, an early phenol-based polymer material. The collection includes also old plastic processing machines as well as a few pieces of furniture designed by world famous Finnish designers like Eero Aarnio.
MuoviSuomi museum is situated in Vallila, Helsinki, and it is open weekdays during business hours. For larger groups the museum can be also opened by appointment.
